Drug for treating traumatic brain injury that protect neural cells from degradation and further damage

There are very limited treatment option  for protecting individuals cognitive learning abilities after brain injury.

New drug successfully tested in animal model, and found effectively protect rat from further degradative effect of brain cell after traumatic injury to brain. After brain injury a person tend to lose memory and other cognitive abilities if the damage to brain is sever.

There exist an pathway for degradative degeneration of neurons where in, energy molecules nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) are rapidly lost depriving damaged neural cells for energy and for degradation.A drug is being tested which will be able to protect rapid loss of NAD molecule which will offer protection to neurons in event of accidental trauma.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) molecule is also able to protect damage occurring to neural cells from diseases like parkinson's and multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
